How to heal your back at home

rub your back for pain

Pain in the lower back in most people is associated with sciatica, although the causes of its occurrence are quite diverse.

Such a symptom accompanies not only the defeat of the paravertebral structures, but also many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and the genitourinary system, as well as metabolic disorders and oncological processes.

That is why, before using alternative methods, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor and find out the cause of the pain.

Also, acute back pain is not always stopped by the usual methods: pills or lotions. Sometimes surgery or a therapeutic block is needed.

A complex approach

If the back hurts in the lumbar region, the most common diagnosis is "osteochondrosis" or "intervertebral hernia". The main condition for the success of treatment is the elimination of the causative factor that caused the pain. Otherwise, drugs or physiotherapy will be powerless and the disease will become chronic.

Treatment of the back and spine begins with a sparing regimen, which means the refusal of any physical activity. For severe pain, bed rest is recommended. To speed up recovery and eliminate discomfort, doctors recommend purchasing an orthopedic pillow and mattress.

This will reduce the load on the spine, prevent compression of the nerve endings and muscle spasms. If it is not possible to buy special devices, it is better to sleep on a mattress of medium hardness and choose a pillow of medium thickness.

Drug therapy prescribed by a doctor usually includes not only anti-inflammatory and pain relievers, but also vitamin complexes. In the rehabilitation period, physiotherapy, physical therapy, massage are performed. As an additional method, you can use folk remedies, which should be agreed in advance with your doctor. With a known diagnosis and the approval of a specialist, treatment of the spine at home will be much more effective.

Folk recipes for back pain

You can get rid of the pain with the help of ordinary mustard plasters, which are found in almost every home. Due to the local reflex effect, they irritate the skin and increase blood flow. Due to the blood supply, metabolic processes in the tissues are accelerated, oxygen transport improves, pain and inflammation decrease. Another important effect of mustard patches is to stimulate the synthesis of adrenaline and noradrenaline, which has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system.

Recipe number 1. Add 50 ml of Furacilin and a teaspoon of liquid honey to the water for mustard plasters. You can use a ready-made solution of Furacilin (sold in pharmacies) or dissolve 1 tablet in 50 ml of water. Soak the prepared mustard plaster in the solution for a few seconds, then remove and apply to the sore spot.

Hold the compress until a burning sensation appears, then remove and dry the skin. Lubricate with cream or oil, cover with cling film and wrap with a warm cloth.

Recipe number 2. Burdock leaves are another affordable home remedy for back and lower back pain relief. Rinse a few fresh leaves, then stack them in a pile so they are touching each other on the green and purple sides. Dip this pile in boiling water and boil for 2-3 minutes, carefully remove it without disturbing their mutual arrangement and let cool. Apply to the lower back, securing with a bandage and a warm scarf.

What to do if "entered" in the back

Men are believed to be more susceptible to sciatica because they engage in physical work or sports, lift and carry heavy loads, drive for long periods of time, and are often overweight. Therefore, they often complain of having "grabbed the back" or "stuck" in the lumbar region.

Lower back pain can take over anywhere - at work, at the gym or at home. In this case, first aid measures will help:

  • find the most advantageous position in which the pain is least felt and stay in this position;
  • do not make sudden movements, it is recommended not to move at all;
  • take an analgesic or anti-inflammatory drug (Diclofenac, Ibuprofen);
  • apply anti-inflammatory ointment to the painful area;
  • if there is an elastic wool belt, tie it at the waist, fixing the spine in a fixed position;
  • lie on your back, bend your knees and put under a pillow made from a folded towel or blanket. In this position, the lower back muscles relax as much as possible.

When the described recommendations are followed, the pain usually subsides in about half an hour. If a burning pain attack appeared after a severe spinal injury, it is imperative to contact a traumatologist.

Medical assistance is also required in the following circumstances:

  • the victim is over 60 years old;
  • have an oncological disease;
  • increase in body temperature;
  • the attack was preceded by long-term treatment with hormonal drugs;
  • pain in the lower back disturbs more than a month;
  • significantly reduced body weight, despite the lack of diet.

If there are no analgesics at home and there is no strength to prepare remedies according to folk recipes, you can try to numb the back with a burdock leaf. It does not need to be scalded with boiling water, soaked or boiled, but simply applied with a shiny side to the body. Secure with a bandage on top and wrap with a wool scarf. Keep the compress for no more than 12 hours.

An equally simple recipe involves using valerian tincture if burdock has not been found. It is necessary to moisten gauze or a cotton cloth, which should then be placed on the lower back.

The next 2 recipes are a little more difficult to prepare: one of them will need black radish and the second one will need turpentine and red clay.

Recipe number 1. Grate the radish and put it on cheesecloth. Apply on the back, cover with cellophane and isolate the affected area of the back. Hold until strong heat appears.

Recipe number 2. Dilute 1 kg of clay with water, add 3 tablespoons of turpentine. You will get a mass that looks like a cake, which is used as a compress.

Subsequently, the filtered infusion is mixed with the juice of two lemons. Lemon can be substituted for lime in this recipe.
